When temperatures drop, many dogs seek out the sofa, the rug, or our bed. It's not a whim: cold floors drain a lot of their body heat while they sleep. A few changes will help them rest better in their own spot.
Keep it off the cold floor
Tile or terrazzo floors quickly sap heat. A bed with good thickness or an insulating base makes all the difference. If the bed is thin, place a rug or a folded blanket underneath it.
Away from drafts, radiators, and doors
Look for a corner without drafts: not next to the front door or under a window. Also, keep it away from radiators or heaters, as they can get too hot and their skin may dry out.
Edges for resting and curling up
In winter, almost all dogs sleep curled up in a ball. Beds with high edges allow them to rest their heads and retain heat. Basket-style beds, like the 60 x 52 cm Gloria Quartz, are very comfortable for this.
Non-slip base
On cold, smooth floors, a bed that slides will end up bunched up in a corner. A non-slip base ensures it stays in place.
Older dogs and short-haired breeds
These dogs feel the cold the most. For them, a thicker and larger bed, along with a small blanket on top, is worth it. If you notice they have trouble getting up in the morning, discuss it with your vet.
A washable bed
More mud gets brought into the house in winter. A washable bed or one with a removable cover saves you from headaches. We explain how in how to wash your dog's bed.
You can see all the beds at Gloria beds and packs. They ship from Spain and arrive in 1 to 3 business days.
